Laurie Lasky M.S.W., Director

Little Feet is a licensed large family daycare program that has been serving young families and children from Brookline and its surrounding communities since 1990. We are a toddler/pre-school program, currently enrolling children ages fifteen months through three years. The director and head teacher, Laurie Lasky, has over 30 years experience in early childhood development and education.

Our Philosophy

Little Feet Daycare is a developmental early childhood program that provides a rich learning environment in which children can explore, interact and learn through the many facets of their play. It is a constantly evolving environment where we routinely change the toys, activities and materials available, adapting to the children’s social, emotional and cognitive needs and abilities as they develop and grow.

From the motor planning involved in climbing the rungs on a slide, to learning the various ways of solving social conflicts – we encourage and mentor the children to use their minds, their bodies and their emerging expressive language to navigate the day to day challenges of growing and learning.

While the acquisition of “substantive” knowledge is an expected goal for toddlers and young preschoolers, at Little Feet, we accomplish this goal through play. We provide a language rich environment, including a small library of children’s literature. Through books, art, music, cooking and imaginary play, just to name a few, the children learn to identify colors, shapes, numbers and the letters of the alphabet. They learn to count and to identify their body parts. They are fully prepared to meet the expectations set before them when they leave Little Feet and move on to pre-school and beyond.

While this kind of learning is important, at Little Feet we believe there is much more. Here we strive to provide a loving, stimulating place where children learn to solve problems and are coached to use their emerging language to become great friends and great people. We model and teach kindness, love, generosity and thoughtfulness.

Two snacks and lunch are provided daily. As an expression of our commitment to the highest standards of child nutrition we provide a wholesome, balanced diet comprised of organic and natural whole foods.

In today’s educational climate, increasingly higher expectations are placed on our children once they move into a more formal school setting. In light of this, we believe the environment at Little Feet is more important for children than ever before. The toddler years are perhaps the only window our children will have to freely become their wonderful little selves, learning and growing through play in a loving, caring place.
