Outdoors:

Little Feet is located in a single family home at the end of a small cul-de-sac just outside of Brookline Village. A flagstone pathway located left of the cottage garden front yard leads to a fenced-in play yard. There the children enjoy a safe, stimulating outdoor area.

Among the outdoor equipment is a large sandbox, climbing equipment, slides, swings, a play cottage, a variety of riding toys and other vehicles, plus two small picnic tables. From time to time we use several wading pools to cool off in the heat of summer.

Indoors:

The entire first floor of our house is used for the Little Feet program. The approximately 850 square feet encompasses a large living room / play room, a brightly lit kitchen, and an average-sized dining room.

The living room is the main play space. It is here that the children have free play, music, circle time, exercise “class”, and regularly engage in reading with the teachers. This room contains a substantial library of children’s literature sitting in a pre-school display case and two adult sized bookcases. The southwest corner of the room contains child-sized wooden kitchen appliances – a sink, stove, and cabinet. Most days a Brio table containing either trains or other play materials is set up in the room. Age appropriate toys are rotated on a daily basis.

Across the entrance to the living room is the dining room. Here we have a quiet area with pillows and baskets of board books. Children often bring toy trucks or baby dolls and blankets into this room, engaging in imaginary play as they move full speed ahead through their toddlerhood and beyond. Late each morning, the dining room is converted into a nap room for our post-lunch rest.

Perhaps the most important room at Little Feet is the kitchen. Here we gather regularly throughout the day. Seated together at our large rectangular table, the children eat breakfast, snacks, and meals (all of which are provided and are included in your tuition). The kids also love to help prepare snack foods. Our cooking projects give everyone a golden opportunity to master turn-taking, as well as dabbling in the culinary arts.

All other art activities are central to kitchen life at Little Feet. The children are offered a vast array of materials to explore. Additionally, fine motor activities such as puzzles, pegboards, and play dough take place in the kitchen.
