About Little Feet

Our Philosophy

Picture
Little Feet Daycare is a developmental early childhood program that provides a rich learning environment in which children can explore, interact and learn through the many facets of their play. It is a constantly evolving environment where we routinely change the toys, activities and materials available, adapting to the children’s social, emotional and cognitive needs and abilities as they develop and grow. We pride ourselves in getting to know each of our students deeply. and we strive to develop and strengthen the resiliency of each and every one of them. In this ever-changing complex world, we feel resiliency is to building the strong foundation that Little Feet provides.

From the motor planning involved in climbing the rungs on a slide, to learning the various ways of solving social conflicts – we encourage and mentor the children to use their minds, their bodies and their emerging expressive language to navigate the day to day challenges of growing and learning. We work to foster self-awareness as well as mindfulness of others and of the environment.

The acquisition of “substantive” knowledge is an expected goal for toddlers and young preschoolers, and at Little Feet we accomplish this goal through play. The interests and passions of our students inform our curriculum and elements of the Reggio Emilio approach are implemented in our child-centered learning environment. We provide a language rich program, including a substantial  and ever growing library of children’s literature. Through books, art, music, cooking and imaginary play, just to name a few, the children learn to identify colors, shapes, numbers and the letters of the alphabet. They learn to count and to identify their body parts.  While a foundation of concrete knowledge is important, at Little Feet we believe there is much more. Here we strive to provide a loving, stimulating place where children learn to solve problems and are coached to use their emerging language to become great friends and great people. We model and teach kindness, love, generosity and thoughtfulness.

As an expression of our commitment to the highest standards of child nutrition we provide a wholesome, balanced diet comprised of  only organic and natural whole foods. Two snacks and lunch are provided daily. The children have their own organic garden in our private play yard and the creation and care of this garden is an integral part of our curriculum through most months of the year.

Because increasingly higher expectations are being placed upon young children as they move to more formal school settings, we believe the environment at Little Feet is more important  than ever before. The toddler and early pre-school years are perhaps the only window our children will have to freely become their wonderful little selves, learning and growing through play in a loving, caring place.
